My Studio J Album

As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently completed a Studio J album- These pages can integrate right into my existing albums and with a few extra brads, some ribbon and glitter, no one will know they are printed pages! When you become a Studio J member- you get access to exclusive papers and layouts on Studio J and get HALF PRICE on all of your layouts (I saved 90$ on my album)- additionally you get free .jpg images of both the layout(low res for facebook, emailing or blogging)and each individual page (high res. if you wanted to print them on your own again later).

Here are a few layouts I created and some techniques I used:

You can pick your layout choice by selecting how many photos you want on your two page spread- but you are not limited to those choices- here is how you can expand your layout options: For these photos I only had two I wanted/could use and there is only one choice for a layout with two photos so I picked a layout that had three photos and changed one of the photo wells to a journalling spot. Photos and journalling can be switched so if you have a specific amount of photos you want on a layout maybe try looking at the options for fewer or more photos and changing them to suit your needs.

This is one of the Studio J members only paper packs and layouts! By becoming a member you have access to several exclusive papers and layouts. But thats not the cool thing about this layout- I added extra journalling spots and created the text border that runs along the top of the photos. You are not resitricted to where you put journalling or titles- just photos (but the layouts are perfectly balanced anyways). By adding extra journalling you can add cool borders and create your own background paper with text on it. If you want your journalling to have more than one font type- this is how you do that too. just add extra journalling spots and get creative!

This layout features the cute Believe paper pack from the fall/winter idea book and uses a Studio J members-only layout. I took the sewn stitches and added them to frame the white background pages and changed the one photo well to a journalling spot- also because the pictures had so much color I added a 1/16" border behind them- you can pick from a variety of cardstock colors for your photo frames and every picture can be different as you can see from the far right photo being on the lighter green to give it emphasis.

I loved the fall paper pack Dreamin' but didn't have any fall pictures to scrapbook- by changing the paper to be monotone shades that complement the paper pack I was able to create this fun family page with a variety of blues and browns. This layout is also especially fun because it has the horizontal photo well on the left side which is perfect for panoramic shots or family pictures.

I just love stickers- and the Wonderland stickers are fabulous and fun. by layering the stickers on the background paper and over the picture and then adding brads of different sizes to the center I was able to create this fun winter page- and I didn't need to buy six packs of stickers to use the same snowflake six times! also you can re-size the stickers and brads to be larger or smaller depending on your needs- something you cannot do in real life!

I recently completed an album in studio J (13 layouts in less than a week) and when I saw this I thought i would share how fast, simple and easy it is!

Beach Album

For this beach album I used a 3-ring binder and turned it vertically. Then I used our new Magnifique kit which has awesome blues on the back side of the patterned paper.

The kids were so cute that day, playing in the water, sand and at the playground. On this page I added a 4x6 flip flap and used the rub-ons and sparkles to accent the paper and make a flap with hidden journalling beneath the picture. For the tab, I used one of the tiny tabs and took the basketball looking sticker off it the end and replaced it with one of the flower stickers from the Magnifique kit.

I had left over top coats from the you rock kit which worked perfectly to complement the papers and the theme for this album.

I also used some top coats- frames over some of the pictures and more rub-ons and our new pearl opaques and colored sparkles.

Nathan was so cute, playing in the sand, he would put his face right into it and everything!

Overall, I was so happy with how this album turned out, and it didn't require a lot of supplies.

Okotoks Teen Scrapbook Club

This fall we are looking forward to starting a new teen workshop club.

It will run every two weeks starting September 16th for six sessions from 7:00pm - 8:30pm each time.

This poem reminded me of the fact that I keep thinking I need to take off my snow tires, but haven't had the time, and by the time I get to it, I will just need to put them on again. I can only hope that the rest of the summer is as nice as the rest of it has been, I still have so much more I want to do.

It was created using the passages workshop kit along with the new August stamp set (C1418) and some other random accessories I had laying around the room. The layout is the right hand side form one of the new patterns in MAGIC, a new interactive scrapbook pattern book that will be available September 1st. I am going to put pictures on it as soon as I take some this month!

Video Of The Week: Sticky Boy

Sticky boy was the prototype acrylic stamp that was designed when Close To My Heart first developed their Clear Acrylic Stamps. Now he has become an object of desire by the consultants at Conventions and Leadership days. Ladies spend hours and hours (until three am I heard one lady tell me) searching out sticky boy stamps which may be stuck to windows, picture frames, elevator walls or plant holders. It is quite amusing to watch knowing what is going on, but any other people in the hotel must have thought we were nuts looking behind garbage cans and running our hands along the walls everywhere we went. We have three sticky boy stamps and although we did not find any at convention this year, we will keep looking again in Disney Land next year!

Disclaimer: I wouldn't necessary recommend "trying this at home" and cannot be held responsible for any damage done by you to your CTMH stamp sets. LOL. but seriously.

I found this yummy chocolate chip recipe from Good Housekeeping and thought I would share it with all of you!

The ingredient list is as follows:

Preheat your oven to 375 F

In one bowl combine:

1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp bs
1/2 tsp salt
-mix

In a separate bowl combine:

1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar

blend and then add:

1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Slowly add dry ingredients and then add:

6 oz chocolate chips
1/2 c chopped walnuts (optional)

Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown!
makes about 10-12 cookies

Loving Summer

Oh Summertime, how I adore you!

I love being outside, mosquito bites and all, just soaking up the rays into my pasty white skin.
I love Watching the children frolic in the grass and wade in the cool shores at the beach!

Here is Karissa, I don't remember what she was doing when I took this picture but she just so freaking cute in her little two-piece and flower hat that I brought her back from Vegas that she has barely taken off since then.

The kids were starting to get a little bit restless so we told them to run to the top of the hill and back. They did it at least three times, but it barely tired them out! Karissa was the last one to start running up the hill, and with her long legs (yes, I am a bit envious of them) she was the first one to come back down.

This is Nancy's youngest son Nathan. A couple of times we caught him laying face down in the sand, his entire face covered in sand. I whipped out the camera and all he did was hold his hands out, full of sand, and smiled at me. What a cute kid!

We decided to take the kids Canoeing, Nancy and I took her two boys and my sister out for a ride and went and saw all of the amazing lake side homes in the area. I wish I could live on the Lake, I would never want to leave, we didn't want to leave!

Convention 2010

We have just returned from Washington DC at the Close To My Heart convention and it was AMAZING!

Since arriving tuesday night we were treated like Royalty at the Gaylord National. The Hotel staff was amazing! They decorated beautifully for this event including a window hanging and mural on the stairs which are very cool!

We have learned so much exciting things that we want to share with everyone! The first bit of exciting news is that Close To My Heart will be retiring 8 of their colors for the palette and introducing 8 vibrant new colors. They are so beautiful and I cannot wait to work with them and share them with everyone!

One of my favorite things, other than getting so meet and reconnect with all of the fabulous ladies at convention, is the art wall. Throughout the year artwork is submitted to corporate office and at convention they display an entire wall of artwork. It was fabulous and I cant wait to share some of the exciting things with everyone.

After the convention was over we spent a bit of time exploring Washington, and even got to see the White House!

Next year convention will be held in the Disney Land Hotel in Anaheim. CA. We are going to take the whole family, I cant wait!

I had never been puked on - Pooped on - Spit on - Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom -
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests...or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life

Wishing everyone a happy holidays as we settle down with the family here to celebrate the season!

Here are my photography tips for Christmas!

1. If you are going anywhere for Christmas make sure you pack the camera and make sure your batteries are charged and you have plenty of extra

2. Lighting: Open a window, natural light is always more camera friendly than light bulbs (or even worse... your flash) Also the outdoors typically makes for a better background than blinds
-check out the link at the bottom of the page for tips on photographing Christmas lights

3. Make a list of the special moments you know you want to capture and keep it with you so you don't forget!

4. Make sure you hand off the camera to someone else every once in a while so that you will be included in the pictures

5. If your going to take a group photo do this first, not after the party when everyone looks their worst

New Workshops on the Go Program:

Close To My Heart has put together a fantastic new system for the workshops on the go!(*note artwork shown online is not the same as the workshop) Each month will still feature an exclusive Jeanette Lynton original layout using one of the fabulous new paper packs from the fall/winter idea book, however each guide now includes a new card pattern featured three different ways for a 6-card workshop! We will be holding several different dates for the latyout workshops, still building six pages, and currently have one night a month scheduled for the new card workshop (this will only increase with interest). In addition to the card workshop there will be an EXCLUSIVE b-sized stamp set featured at each workshop and several different pricing options for your shopping needs! (see below).
As our traditional clubs are being replaced with workshops on the go and technique days, we still want to offer rewards to customers who attend our classes by introducing an open club concept. Each month we will feature one of the fabulous new workshops on the go on several different dates. In September, any person attending a workshop will have their names drawn for placement on their list (we will have three separate lists, Strathmore, Nanton, and Okotoks). Depending on the number of people attending the workshop, we will reward $30 to the top person(s) on the list. Any new people joining us that evening will be added to the bottom of the list and any person(s) rewarded will revolve to the bottom of the list as well. Love the look of "blinged-out" layouts, but your stamp box is already overflowing? You can purchase all of the materials to complete the workshop and just use our stamp set during the class. Do you have to have it all!!? This package includes the basic kit (paper pack, accessory guide and stamp set) along with all of the additional accessories required to fully "bling-out" your layouts. The workshop guide now includes a cutting guide and instructions for six cards showing off an exclusive new pattern in three different ways (2 of each= 6 cards). Album Retreat / Crop:

We are fast approaching our first annual Album Retreat / Crop in Blairmore AB, November 20^th - 22^nd 2009 and there are still spaces available! You will have the choice to just crop all weekend, eat and have some fun, or you may choose to join us in the completion of an album. There will be fun games and draws for free products over the weekend.

As many of you have long been anticipating, we will be putting on an Album Class this year during the Blairmore scrapbook retreat. We will be completing 10 two-page layouts using a wide variety of CTMH products and new techniques. The cost for this portion of the event is $200.00 and includes all materials needed including a My Legacy Linen Album in your choice of Color. You may also upgrade to a Leather Album for $30.00 more.

This year we are working with Carmen Gareau, a travel agent out of Nanton to put on this fabulous event and all payments can be processed through Carmen directly or through Deborah, who will pass it on to Carmen. The Album is a separate portion of the retreat all together, and can be dealt with directly through Deborah either by phone (403-938-7498) or email skowd@telus.net

Room rates (including excellent meals) are as follows:

a) $180.00 for a single room (1 person per room)

b) $160.00 for double occupancy room (2 people per room with 2 beds)

Wow, it seems like just yesterday we were leaving for Long Beach and now the amazing weekend is over! While Leadership may be over, it is just the beginning for the endless new releases from Close To My Heart! Our event began with a beautiful Create and Take demonstrating one of the new paper packs: Twitterpated. The paper is beautiful and the project is from our new Workshops on the Go Program- now featuring CARDS! That's right, each Workshop on the Go guide now has instructions for an exclusive two page layout and three cards using the featured paper pack and an exclusive stamp set! Sensational Simplicity

This months Art and Soul Episode features the typically boy-ish "Gear Up" stamp Set (C1353) in a fun girly way! By Stamping the gears in girly colors and accessorizing them they become become beautiful flowers in a flash. Below is a sample layout I created using this technique and adding my own little bit of sparkle and shine! It was fun and simple and a fresh new way to look at the stamp set. The photos are not the ones I will actually use for this layout, but it needed photos to really show off the artwork!

The technique featured on CTMH TV this month is random stamping. One tip when random stamping is to make triangle patterns and to rotate your stamp set and go off your page when stamping your image. When using multiple images, I would suggest starting with your largest image and working your way to the smallest.

Teen Summer Camp Went Awesome!

This past week was spent building fabulous scrapbooks with young people! It was so much fun teaching new techniques, making new friends and helping some wonderful girls build personal pages to preserve their memories! All of the layouts featured different techniques and patterns from our Cherish, Imagine and Reflections scrapbooking programs keeping it Faster Simpler and Easier!

Vacation Acrylic Album

Close To My Heart truly is an industry leader in so many ways! I have worked with many other companies acrylic albums, but none of them even come close to comparison with the quality that Close to My Heart has to offer. Recently I created this adorable beach-themed acrylic album using Moon Doggie level two paper and the Extreme Happiness stamp set. It was so much fun to work with the different sized pages and tags that our acrylic album contains and watch as the album came together. I will be putting photos in the album shortly and posting the finished product in the web album as well.

June Art and Soul on MYCTMH TV

This months Art and Soul Episode features several cute techniques including faux paper tearing, embossing and my favorite; sparkles!!!

I made a card using the faux tearing technique for my little sisters birthday! It was so easy to do... all you do is tear a scrap piece of paper and lay it over the portion of the card you want to be left white, then using your rubber brayer simply apply ink to a desired tone over the unmasked portion of the card. When your done it looks as though you have two layers of cardstock, but it really is only one! in my card i masked the top and used tulip ink with the brayer along the bottom of the card.

I also used the technique from page 27 in our summer idea book to create an embossed foam number for on the card. You choose a larger, patterned stamp (i used Spot On Backgrounds: D1280) and ink the stamp with your Versamark pad. *note: do not stamp the foam number yet! Then heat the foam number and stamp the patterned image onto it while it is still hot and hold for at least three full seconds to allow the foam to take the shape of the stamp set. This creates a cute pattern on the number and gives it texture! In my card I also used the stamp set to give my letter "u" the same pattern in tulip ink!

Summer Camps - a memorable way for your child to have some fun this summer!

This summer we are offering two different summer camps for children ten and older.

JULY:

Album Retreat Camp
-July 6-10 and 13-17
*each week is a separate camp and we will be doing the same album each week.

Have your child come out and create a beautiful scrapbook using Close to my Hearts wonderful products to cherish your memories! We will be creating ten 2-page layouts over the course of the week all while building friendships and having some fun! The finished result will be bound to impress family and friends and uses only acid-free products to ensure your childrens precious memories are preserved for life!

The cost of the Album retreat camp is $195.00 for the week and includes lunch and snacks daily, all of the supplies to build a wonderful scrapbook and a My Legacy Linen Album in your child's choice of color to stylishly coordinate with their personalities and preserve their photographs.

Have your child come out and build a stylishly coordinating Year-Long Calendar in their choice of color theme. We will be teaching your child how to cut their paper, distress, stamp and embellish all the pages for a 12-month calendar to proudly display at home or give as a gift.

The fee for this camp is $120.00 and includes lunch and snacks every day as well as all of the materials required to complete a beautiful Calendar inspired by your child! All products used will be 100% acid-free and the neat thing about these Calendars is that once the year is over your child will have twelve 12x12 scrapbook pages which can be transferred into an Album to preserve for life!

We will be sending out photo sizes the first week of August so your child can come armed with their photographs and go home with a completed calender at the end of the week hassle-free to you!

Lethbridge Womens Show

This Weekend May 29-31 we will be at the Lethbridge Women's Show at the Exhibition grounds in Lethbridge, AB! We will have a booth set up with tonnes of goodies on sale and an excellent door prize! I encourage anyone in the area to come out and see us or pass this information onto a friend! The hours for the Womens show are as follows:

The long awaited 10 things I love about YOU mini album is finally here! Mark off Sunday June 14th on your calendar for an afternoon of fun. This album is so much fun and could be used in many different ways. I have mine still blank because I haven't decided what I am going to do with it yet... my family, dog, best friend???? this mini album is not simply about husbands or boyfriends, it could be anything.... the color scheme is very neutral and because our Background and Texture papers are reversible, this album could very easily be turned into a very masculine or feminine book. New Episode on Art and Soul: Mementos for the Man in Your Life

I recently started watching the Art and Soul Episodes on CTMH TV and I have to say I am so excited to put some of these amazing techniques to practice. This months episode features a really cool photo wallet and layouts that are more masculine for those special men in our lives. this episode features the Campin' Fever stamp set (on sale now!) and using one ink color to create a beautiful wood grained patter simply by using first, second and third generation stamping and the rock and roll technique which are all explained in the episode. This months Art and Souls also shows unique and wonderful ways to use your corner rounder, to create little accents and scalloped edges. Last but not least Jeanette displays a delicious assortment of paper crafted cupcakes!

This is my version of the photo wallet. I made it using the left over pieces after I completed the Animal Cookies Workshop on the Go. I put photos of my brothers and sister in it and now when someone asks me what my brother and sister look like i can show them! From top to bottom they are: Cameron (5), Karissa (6) and Branden (9).

I was just so happy to learn a fun new project that I could use for me and cannot wait to teach it to everyone I know!

First Annual Album Retreat / Crop

We are proud to announce the unveiling our first annual Album Retreat / Crop in Blairmore AB, November 20^th - 22^nd 2009. You will have the choice to just crop all weekend, eat and have some fun, or you may choose to join us in the completion of an album. There will be fun games and draws for free products over the weekend.

Room rates (including excellent meals) are as follows:

a) $180.00 for a single room (1 person per room)

b) $160.00 for double occupancy room (2 people per room with 2 beds)

c) $140.00 for triple/quad occupancy room (3/4 people per room with 2 beds or 2 people

per room sharing bed).

NEW IDEA BOOK = NEW WORKSHOPS ON THE GO

May 1st - Launch of our Summer Idea Book and FIVE new exciting summer paper packs!

I am sooooo excited for this Idea Book, it is by far the most gender neutral, fun summer idea book yet and the papers are TO DIE FOR!

As always, we will be hosting our famous Workshops on the Go program featuring each of the new paper packs from the Summer Idea Book: Animal Cookies, Moon Doggie, Bella, Back Country and Tinkerin'.

The Workshops on the Go program is a fun, unique way to get out and create six beautiful scrapbook pages in 3 hours. We have evening, afternoon and weekend workshops available to suit everybody's needs and desires! Each workshop costs is $35.00 and includes a level 2 paper pack, My Stickease and coordinating Accessory from the Idea book as well as any other miscellaneous item (ie: brads or ribbon) needed to complete all six pages.

We would also be thrilled to come to you and do the Workshops on the Go at your house. If you have five friends who are interested in doing one or all of our Workshops on the Go layouts, give us a call at 403-938-7498 and we would be happy to bring our Workshops to you!

Each workshop features a two-page, level-three layout with an exclusive Jeanette Lynton original pattern not available in our how-to programs, as well as a technique and tool lesson embedded into the pagers. We will teach you how to use your paper trimmer and guide you through cutting the pieces for all six pages and then dive into the building and completion of these beautifully designed masterpieces.

No materials required! No experience required!

Our first Workshop on the Go from the Summer Idea Book is going to be Animal Cookies, its a fun, colorful paper pack with endless possibilities. Tickled Pink- My Experience

I was not sure whether or not I was going to like this promotion, but after five minutes of playing with the sparkly papers and beautiful stamp set I knew I needed more!

This cute four page layout kit really has everything but in, they even give you a sponge tool and teach you how to use both sides of it so that you only need the one to complete the whole project. stamping on the White Daisy Die Cuts was fun, one suggestion I would make is to punch the pieces from the die cut sheet and have a darker piece of scrap under you to be able to clearly see the edges, and if the stamp does not get lined up just right, simply sponge the edges of the flower when your done.

The cutting guide was easy to follow, and I was amazed at how many scraps I had left over! The paper is also nice, and the guide gets you to cut into the non-sparkly pages for using the blue side, so that you have even more dazzling shine left over to use on other projects. Although this paper seems a little girlie, I am going to challenge myself to use it for a page featuring my brothers. If anyone has used this paper in a fun, new, more masculine way I encourage them to send me a photo, and I will post it on our myCTMH site under Art.

The only other thing I want to say about the Tickled Pink Kit, is that it is one of the first promotion items I have used and completed for myself, and it took my maybe four hours start to finish while watching t.v. I did have a couple problems printing my pictures, due to lack of skills on Photoshop, but i think the pages turned out alright in the end.
